Drawing is primal. Through the process of drawing, form is given to our terrors and desires. Process as performance will also be considered in this course.  In one exercise participants will work in costume.  In another class we will build an installation to “perform” within.  Drawing will be our way of seeing, and through it, we will develop a greater repertoire of mark making.  A range of conceptual problems will be solved sequentially through a variety of materials and methods-- including collaborative approaches.  All exercises will be based on direct observation, from which all great work springs forth.

Each day will be divided into two sessions with a break for lunch.  PowerPoint presentations will be given at the beginning of each segment and medium and materials will change half way through the day. Initially, the figure will be used and first presented as an isolated form in space, leading to its study as a spatial component integrated into the environment.  Later we will draw ourselves. Various modes of drawing will be explored and we will investigate a range of wet and dry media as well.

A variety of materials will be needed for this Marathon. A separate list will available soon.
