Certificate Program

After successfully completing the three-year program, the student is eligible to receive a New York Studio School Certificate. Certificate candidates are reviewed by a committee following the senior student end-of-term critiques. A commencement ceremony is held for certificate candidates at the end of the school year.

Painting during summer session

Some senior students elect to remain at the school for a final year of study after the receipt of their Studio School Certificate. This final year is often encouraged, based upon the individual needs of the student, because of the fundamental belief at the School in the long-term development of the artist.

Credit

While the School is not a degree-granting institution, art departments of colleges and universities throughout the country have granted credit for time students have spent at the School. Credit has been granted on a transfer basis for studio and art history courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels for work done during the regular school year and for summer sessions. Arrangements should be made through the student's home college or university art department.

Colleges and universities which have granted credit for study at the New York Studio School include: Antioch College, Bard College, Barnard College, Bates College, Bowdoin College, Brandeis University, Brooklyn College, California College of Arts & Crafts, University of California (Berkeley), Carnegie-Mellon University, City University of New York, Cleveland Art Institute, Colorado College, University of Colorado, Columbia University, Dartmouth College, Empire State College, Fordham University, Goddard College, Hampshire College, University of Hawaii, University of Illinois, Indiana University, Kansas City Art Institute, Maryland Institute, Middlebury College, New York University, Oberlin College, Philadelphia College of Art, Pratt Institute, Queens College, Raymond College, Reed College, Rhode Island School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Southwest Missouri State University, SUNY (Purchase), Syracuse University, Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Vassar College, Wesleyan University and Yale University.
