Sculpture Fee

Working in the sculpture atelier

All students who take sculpture classes are required to pay a studio fee to help subsidize studio costs. This mandatory fee is due the first week of class. For full-time registered students, this fee will be $300 per semester, and is due with the first tuition payment.

Payment Schedule

Full payment is due to the School by July 30, 2007.

Students can opt to join a deferred payment plan. The payment schedule for students enrolling in the 2007-2008 academic year is as follows. Fees covering sculpture materials, processing for foreign students and library use are due with the first payment.

Fall 2007

  • 1st tuition payment due date: July 30, 2007
  • 2nd tuition payment due date: September 1, 2007
  • 3rd tuition payment due date: October 1, 2007
  • 4th tuition payment due date: November 1, 2007
Spring 2008
  • 1st tuition payment due date: January 1, 2008
  • 2nd tuition payment due date: February 1, 2008
  • 3rd tuition payment due date: March 1, 2008
  • 4th tuition payment due date: April 1, 2008

There is no payment plan for the Summer program, the Marathons, or the Evening & Weekend classes. These programs must be paid in full one week before the class starts.

Late Payments

A late payment fee of $100 is due each time a payment is late. There is a one-week grace period from the payment due date. All tuition bills must be fully paid by the last payment date of each semester.
There is a late registration fee of $100.

Deferred Payment

(only available for full-time registered students)

A full-time registered student, who is a citizen of the United States or a third semester international student who has been issued a student visa by the School, may request the deferred payment agreement for tuition payment. This agreement must be signed at registration.

A student is not allowed to owe more than one payment at a time and will be asked to leave the School until the payment is made.

There is a $100 fee on all deferred payment agreements which must be included in the first installment. There is also a $100 late payment fee each time a payment is late. There is a one-week grace period from the payment due date. All tuition bills must be fully paid by the last payment date of each semester.

Outstanding Tuition

Before a returning student may register, any outstanding tuition or fees must be paid in full. In certain cases, particularly where late payment of tuition has become habitual, a student may be asked to pay the full tuition in advance before being allowed to register.

Withdrawals

Any student wishing to withdraw must give prior notice to the Registrar in writing. Refunds are computed as follows depending on the date of withdrawal:

Fall & Spring Semesters

  • Within the first two weeks of semester - 80% refunded
  • Within the third week of semester - 60% refunded
  • Within the fourth week of semester - 40% refunded
  • After four weeks - No refund

Summer Session

  • Within the first week of the semester - 80% refunded
  • Within the second week - 60% refunded
  • Within the third week - 40% refunded

No refund is given to international students who have been issued a Student Visa; however, the tuition payment may be deferred to another semester, if the student withdraws within the first four weeks.

This refund policy applies to full-time students only. Marathon, evening and Saturday class students are not issued refunds once the class has begun. Marathon students who wish to withdraw refunds once the class has begun forfeit their $500 deposit. This deposit can, however, be applied to another program a student attends within a year of the withdrawal.

Financial Services

Students who wish to attend the New York Studio School must be aware that they should be able to cover both tuition expenses and related expenses such as materials, housing costs, health insurance and travel.

Financial Aid

Scholarship funding given by the New York Studio School is need-based. Most awards are granted on a yearly basis and are for full-time study only. Students must complete a form for each year they wish to be considered. Scholarships and other awards only cover tuition expenses.

Any student wanting to be considered for financial assistance must complete the School's Financial Aid Application Form, available from the Student Services Office or for download by clicking the link above. The deadline for completion of this application is March 1 for Fall enrollees, and October 1 for Spring enrollees.

Completed forms, together with all supporting documentation, must be submitted to the Student Services Office on or prior to the above dates.

Work-Study Fellowships

The New York Studio School Work-Study Fellowships are available to enrolled students who demonstrate genuine financial need and usually have completed at least one semester. Applicants are reviewed by the Director of Student Services who considers the student's financial standing. Other sources of aid and efforts towards self-help are also taken into account.

Work-Study awards require students to work for a specific number of hours, depending on the amount of the award, in one or more jobs. Students are assigned tasks in consideration of their skills and merit. Assignments can include work in the following areas: building maintenance, class and shop monitors, office and library assistance, cooking, photography, gallery work, graphic design, and other positions that help the School function on a daily basis.

Applications for Work-Study Fellowships are distributed at Registration. Students are required to be in compliance with academic standards to continue eligibility.

Tuition Scholarships

The criterion for the award of scholarships is primarily financial need, determined by information culled from the Financial Aid Application. The level of the student's commitment to his or her work and overall merit is factored into the award of scholarship monies by a scholarship committee.

Special Grants & Scholarships

Due to the generosity of various individuals, corporations and foundations, several special grants and scholarships may be available to students. Application details may differ for each individual grant. Such grants may include a summer travel award and a housing grant for female students.

Please contact the Student Services Office for further information about any of these programs.

Student Health Insurance

The School provides information for enrolled students on individual student health plans, if the student is not covered through other means. The plan is available on an individual basis through the American College Student Association. For further information on available coverage, and for application forms, please see Student Health Plan Information.

If you have any questions, please contact the Bursar on 212-673-6466 or in person during office hours.

*Registration with the New York State Board of Regents pending.
