Shura Chernozatonskaya was born in Moscow, Russia in 1979. She moved to America at the age of fifteen. The first work experience happened to be playing gospels in a black Baptist church in a beautifully named town of Ravenna, OH. The second one, in a diner constructed in a style of a railroad car, where Ms. Chernozatonskaya learned English.  In 2000 she received her Bachelors in piano performance from Oberlin Conservatory and art history degree from Oberlin College. The same year she moved to New York and quit playing piano. Since then she has been painting. In 2006 Ms.  Chernozatonskaya obtained an MFA degree in painting from New York Studio School. She lives in New York, works in Bushwick.
