My training and early experiences in art were modernist and formalist. I am interested in learning how to learn. My passions for stories, math, science, writing and appalachian fiddling cause me to paint in what ever manner the subject demands, whether it "looks like" another painting of mine or not. I serve my subject. You take a bite. I insist there be something to entice a first time viewer of art and much more for those of us who want much more from art. I look for trouble and paint best when I'm in over my head, failing in this way then that, a disciplined nerd with a heart, a man who needs to know his painting's subject and invites you to share in it at the end of the day.
