This summer, eighteen artists participated in a residency program at Governors Island as guests of the National Park Service. Renowned painter Lois Dodd selected the participants from an open submission of alumni of the New York Studio School. For as many artists taking part , the show offers as many different responses to this historic garrison island -- views of Lower Manhattan, of the nationally landmarked fort and other buildings on the island, of the docks in Brooklyn. These and others themes of New York Harbor are interpreted through perceptual realism, fantasy realism, abstraction, with the unique touch of each artist.
