Barbara Grossman's paintings take their cue from her music making motif: they sing with plastic values. The New York Studio School is honored to present Barbara Grossman: A Survey, a traveling exhibition which originated at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, in September 2004 and was subsequently seen at Lafayette Colleg, Easton, Pennyslvania, and Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Virginia. We are grateful to Glen Cebulash, Associate Professor at Wright, for initiating the exhibition, and to Hearne Pardee for his sensitive, perceptive essay, reproduced here from the exhibition catalogue. The School thanks Nicolai Nickson, Hiro and Jolyon Carter for their perfectionist hard work in the installation of the show; Christina Kee for her administrative assistance; and Jennilie Brewster for her work on this website.
