MFA Sculpture Student, Des Smith was the recent recipient of the Dedalus Foundation Fellowship. Fellowships are given by nomination only by two students entering in the final year in their MFA Program.

Garth Evans is featured in the group show Coincidence, opening at SPEKTRE Gallery in Brooklyn on January 15, 2010. The exhibition, which also features Ed Smith, Luca Lazar and Ilia Reyentovich, will be on show through February 7, 2010.

Stanley Lewis, Carole Robb and Lee Tribe - all current members of the NYSS faculty - are featured in the show Chautauqua: A Continuum of Creativity at Denise Bibro Gallery in Chelsea, from January 5 through February 13, 2010. The exhibition showcases the work of faculty and alumni of the Chautauqua School of Art, in celebration of its 100th anniversary. Also featured are alumni and current students of the NYSS, including Dan Abrams, Rochelle Goldberg and Marc Zimetbaum.

Bruce Gagnier, Bill Jensen, Elisa Jensen, Margrit Lewczuk and Lee Tribe are also featured in an exhibition at Sideshow Gallery in Brooklyn, opening Saturday, January 9 2010. Also featured in the show are several NYSS alumni, including Phong Bui, Chris Carone,  Sasha Chermayeff, Carol Diamond, Cathy Diamond, Xico Greenwald, Tine Lundsfryd, Gary Nichols, Deirdre Swords, Torild Stray and Alice Zinnes. The work of Elisa Jensen will also be featured in the upcoming National Academy Invitational Exhibition.

Graham Nickson, Dean, was featured in a show titled In Good Company: Figurative Drawings from the Collection at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo NY. The exhibition, which ran from October 2, 2009 through January 3, 2010, also featured works by Pablo Picasso, Ben Shahn, Paul Klee, and others.

Elisa Jensen, Instructor in the Painting Department, had three large drawings in the Governor's Island Art Fair, which ran September 5 through 27, 2009.

Graham Nickson, Dean of the School, had an exhibition titled Edge of the Day: Watercolors, at the Monmouth Museum through August 30. The exhibition Graham Nickson: Italian Skies was at Jill Newhouse Gallery, NY until June 5, 2009.

Garth Evans, Atelier Head in the Sculpture department, had a show of drawings opening May 27, 2009 at Johnson State College, Vermont, which ran through August 1, 2009.

Evans also spoke at the Royal College of Art in London on June 25, 2009. The talk centered on his reflections on an innovative teaching program called "A Course" that he was partly responsible for at St. Martin's School of Art in London during the  late 1960s. A film about the program, "The Locked Room", was also  shown and discussed. Evans gave a similar talk at a conference organized by The Henry Moore Institute entitled, "United Enemies"  that looked at sculpture made in the U.K. during this period, as well as presenting on his own work during this period and commenting on an interview from 1972 shown by the BBC, relating to one of his pieces being included in an important exhibition of British sculpture held the same year at the Royal Academy.

Elisa Jensen, an Instructor in the Painting department, was recently awarded the John Koch Award, which honors a young painter of figurative work, by the American Academy of Arts & Letters.
