Models

Models in the painting atelier
|
The human figure represents one of the most challenging
aspects of experience: the opposition of the object of ourselves
and the object of otherness. An essential task of the artist is
the forming of experience, and the making of metaphor for that experience.
The naturally composed system of weights and balances of the human
form, and the potential for movement and change evoke simultaneously
the idea of time and stability. Understanding one's perception of
the figure in relation to the environment, the connection between
the human form and the space it occupies, expands this experience.
It is in the intimacy between these formal elements that the mystery
of our experience opens for us.
The School strives to make this experience an essential part of
the student's daily study; therefore, models are constantly present
in all drawing, painting and sculpture ateliers.
